Research into electronic throttle technology began in the late 1970s; the technology emerged in the 1980s and entered into application in the 1990s.
Concept
Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) is a flexible closed-loop control system that drives the throttle valve using an electric motor mounted on the throttle body; under the control of the electronic control unit (ECU), it enables rapid and precise control of the throttle opening.

System Composition
The system primarily consists of the accelerator pedal, accelerator pedal position sensor, throttle control unit, data bus, actuator, throttle position sensor, and throttle mechanism.

Advantages of electronic throttle
(1) Precise control of throttle opening
(2) Enables optimal torque output across the entire engine operating range
(3) Improves engine emission performance
(4) Offers higher vehicle operational reliability
(5) Different working modes can be selected
(6) Altitude compensation available
Disadvantages of the electronic throttle
(1) Throttle lag occurs when the vehicle starts moving.
(2) Non-linear effects
(3) High cost
Classification of electronic throttles
Electronic throttle (analog signal output)
Diesel engine electronic throttle (analog signal output)
Electronic throttle (SENT protocol output)
