Common Symptoms of a Failing Throttle Body

  • Unstable idle, "hunting," or engine stalling

  • Acceleration lag or delayed throttle pedal response

  • Check Engine Light (CEL) – common DTCs: P0120, P0220, P2119, etc.

  • Cruise control malfunction or inoperability

  • Reduced power / limp mode

Installation & Adaptation Tips

IMPORTANT: After replacing the Electronic Throttle Body (ETB) on GM vehicles, a throttle relearn (idle learn) procedure is required.

Step Action
1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes (clears old learned values).
2 Install the new throttle body, reconnect the plug and hoses.
3 Turn ignition ON (do not start engine) and wait 10 seconds.
4 Turn ignition OFF for 10 seconds.
5 Start the engine and let it idle in Park for 3 minutes.
6 With engine running, shift to Drive (foot on brake) and idle for 3 minutes.
7 Return to Park and idle for 3 minutes.
8 Turn engine off – relearn is complete.

For GM trucks/SUVs: The above procedure usually works without a scanner. If issues persist, use a professional diagnostic scanner (e.g., GM MDI or Tech2) to perform a "Throttle Body Relearn" or "Idle Learn".
